Tanek Incorporated, an up-and-coming architectural firm, Fran Shea from Zeichen Press and The Carney Group teamed up to produce this redesign of www.tanek.com. Click on the image above to see the latest handiwork from the team.
We're redesigning the Zeichen site next. We can improve the web site, all right, but the Zeichen product has always been as good as it gets and as funny as Fran Shea. That's funny.

Wesley Walker and NorthWay Community Trust are not new to North Minneapolis nor to the non profit world and neither is their annual report. It's just new to The Carney Group. We've admired the color and the adherence to a grid that has been its hallmark for the previous few years. We wanted to honor a tradition but apply our own colorful mark, as well.
So, here it is. Eight pages of truth and beauty. Reaching for the future with an eye on the past.
Every year 2,500 artists enter their work in the juried State Fair Art Exhibition and out of these entrants only 370 are accepted. The Carney Group was on pins and needles awaiting the verdict of Pat Carney's Photographic print "Life in Balance". Was it going to make it in?
The State Fair Art Exhibition is the largest juried show in Minnesota attracting over 400,000 visitors. The Fine Arts show is free for all State Fair goers from Aug. 27-Sept. 7 at the corner of Cosgrove and Randall on the State Fair Grounds.
Come by the fair and see Minnesota's finest for yourself. And yes, "Life in Balance" did make the final cut.
Holidays give us a moment to pause, contemplate and celebrate. We're asking you to give yourself permission to celebrate the more obscure holidays and share them with others. Take a snapshot, tell a story, let us know how you saunter. Click on the image above!

We were pleased to find out that our agenda brochure for PRI at 2008’s Public Radio Development & Marketing Conference (PRDMC) in Orlando picked up two awards—Best of Class and Best of Division— at the Printing Industry of Minnesota Awards in April.
This week, we received notification that our Lundell folder has won an Award of Distinction in the print category of 2009’s Communicator Awards. This is the leading annual competition honoring creative excellence for communication professionals, and we’re very excited to be counted among the other recipients!
We haven't collected our physical awards yet, but we've got a lovely Brant Kingman bronze (pictured above with Pat) standing in for the interim.

An active contracting company with an eye for building with good bones. The Mitchell Construction site has the crisp finish and eye for detail that all of their construction and renovation projects have.
The site is easily maintained with a content management system and twitter feed. Working with Mitchell Construction to build their site was a pleasure. We can surmise that working with them on a construction project would be just as great.
Lundell Manufacturing is all about custom fabrication with precision. When they approached us about revamping their collateral, we rose to the challenge by creating a custom die cut brochure with an interior pocket to exemplify the elegance and perfection of their product. The result has reinvigorated Lundell's sales force, now armed with collateral that lives up to their company name.

The BBC took us (okay, just our creative work) with them as they toured the US this fall, hosting panel discussions on the most difficult issues in our latest presidential election in front of live audiences.
Our large format dimensional signage helped listeners to spot BBC reporters streetside, and pointed them to studio and theatre venues where panel discussions were broadcast.

In a feat of political challenge and, consequently, marketing bravado, CodeWeavers Software Company announced their Great American Lame Duck Presidential Challenge last summer.
Their challenge made a big splash on the world wide web this week. CodeWeavers hoped “to encourage President Bush to make the most of his remaining days in office by accomplishing a major economic or political goal by January 20, 2009.” By coincidence (or not) George W. delivered.
The contest was a big win for users, who were invited to download CrossOver software for free, for one day. The Wall Street Journal reported, “CodeWeavers is learning what happens when you scream 'Free Software' in a crowded Internet.”
The Carney Group has partnered with CodeWeavers from their inception, from the naming of the company through the packaging of each subsequent product.

Our first day on the job for Minneapolis' Northside Marketing Task force was spent shooting an event called FLOW—and what a first day it was!
FLOW is a celebration of all the talent and aspirations of our young people, the wisdom and insight of our elders, the beauty and depth that comes from our artists, the rhythm and vibrancy of our music, and the power of transformation that is underway on the North Side of Minneapolis.

3,500 attendees discussed the corporatization of media at the National Conference on Media Reform in 2008. The Carney Group was there (with camera in tow) to learn about how media and public policy effects our clients and fellow citizens.

All Hallows Eve is number five in a series of Wacky Holiday emails from The Carney Group. So far, this has been the only holiday that is celebrated by more than a platoon of people and the recipients of our little e-blast.
Speaking of which, how would you like to be one of the lucky number who get a monthly copy of our e-newsletter? Just click on the picture above and sign up to get it in our delightful little missives in you email box every month.
The Carney Group continues it's exploration of Wacky holidays with this month's celebration of Bad Poetry Day. Go to our Facebook page and take a look at the very bad submissions you sent us!

Shepard Fairey's Obama HOPE poster impressed just about everyone, including the design community. Now, Paste Magazine invites you to be part of the mix. All you need is 5 minutes and a web cam or photo of yourself (or wife, or dog, etc). Pictured above is the Obamafied Carney Group namesake.
It takes more than well-written and designed ads to cause ripples in the market. Is this thinking out of the box? And does it have to be a box?
On our first workday of 2009, this video reminds us of how grateful we are to subsist on creativity.
Our own Matt Alvar was featured in HOW Magazine's Self Promotion Design Annual as a Merit Award winner! His winning piece was a handmade interactive poster for an annual poker weekend with his buddies.
Matt's poster consisted of two pieces of paper glued on top of each other so that specific areas can be torn away to reveal additional debaucherous details.
Congratulations, Matt!
On October 24, 2008, citizens from all over the Twin Cities gathered to celebrate outside in different locations with pot-luck picnics as part of the annual Heart of the City celebration.
The hottest story in the blogosphere on the last day of February 2008 is Alisa Miller’s three minute presentation at the TED Conference. Designed by the Carney Group and scripted by Duffy Pearce, Ms. Miller, the President and C.E.O. of Public Radio International, delivered a presentation outlining why Americans are so uninformed about international news.
To support her hypothesis Alisa used maps produced by worldmapper.org that changed the apparent sizes of countries depending on the amount of news coverage delivered to the American public.
